It had been three days since the young Aimée was taken to the house of Thierry and Jeanette Durand. Thierry and Jeanette were watching over the child from a distance. She was in her playroom. It was a room they had prepared for their first-born child, who never made it alive.

The playroom was bright and cheery, with hues of orange and pink and yellow on the walls. There was a box of toys in the corner. Not far off from it was a small red desk with a light fixed onto it. There was a small bright green chair for Aimée to sit on. On the wall to the right of the desk was a corkboard with Aimée's drawings. There was a round rug in the centre of the room - it was red, with yellow stars all over it. At the entrance was a near-transparent red glittery curtain. The window in the room faced the trees and flowers growing outside the house.

Yet, not everything was all cheery for Aimée. She had only just come to terms with the fact that she had lost her family, and that she would never get her mother, father or siblings back. The skies outside were grey, and it looked like it was going to rain. Aimée put her toy drum and sticks aside, propped herself on the chair, took a sheet of paper from the desk and some coloured pens, and began writing.

I don't know why candles are put out by the wind, when all the wind does is move.

I don't know why some things shatter in our hands no matter how much care we take to hold them.

I don't understand why the sun does not come out when we want it to.

If they say the sky's the limit, the sky is not being particularly nice to me.

If they say death is a change of address, I'd like that address, so that I can be with them.

She then wrote the name of her parents and her siblings and kissed the sheet of paper.

Meanwhile, Thierry began to worry about the child. It was at that point that he started hating the Iriniais, much to the displeasure of his wife......

"That Iriniais man who killed the child's family... Beaulieu or whatever his name is... is an abomination. Those blasted Iriniais..."
"Dear, surely not all of them are rotten apples ? Ani Suring is herself an Iriniais... Oh the poor soul, I hope she'll be alright."
"Ani Suring is an IRINIAIS for crying out loud ! Do you even have the faintest idea of what they're gonna do to her ? They're gonna take her and kill her !"
"Look, we can't do anything about that now, can we ? She's already come to terms with it. Instead of hating the Iriniais you should be worried about the child ! And don't tell me you're not gonna treat the child well simply because she's half Iriniais---"

Thierry stared blankly at Jeanette.

"The child is half Iriniais ?"
"...............Yes."
"Hmph. Well." He cleared his throat and continued, "So be it. She's got some of our blood anyway. I'm gonna make a fine young woman out of her."
"Whatever you do, don't break her. We're going to be her parents from now on. And don't you ever say A WORD about that drum of hers." She walked away, but before leaving the kitchen, she looked into Thierry's eyes and said, "I'll know when you do."

Jeanette walked out of the kitchen and stopped outside the playroom, where she saw Aimée crying on the desk. This is it, she said to herself. It's my turn to support Aimée. And Jeanette walked in...
An idea I had for one of my stories in my series of original works, Les Histoires Duchemin. This one is part of Le Carnet d'Ani Suring (a.k.a. The Tale of Ani Suring), and recounts the events which take place shortly after protagonist Ani Suring takes eight-year-old Aimée Duchemin to the home of Thierry and Jeanette Durand.

For Guild of Deviousness purposes : I initially wanted this to fall under the prompt "Memorial", but now it can fall under one of the three : Same Song, Different Life (for the part of Ani Suring), Resolution Revelation (on the part of Jeanette Durand) and Memorial (on the part of young Duchemin). For Ani Suring, I have not decided at which point in time she is to be captured, imprisoned and led out to the stake. Jeanette resolves to take care of Duchemin and love her like a mother would, even though she can't take the place of Duchemin's biological mother. And as for Duchemin......... I believe you might be able to understand.

Requesciat in pace, Calum.

lol, I love it when writers or artists take on all three prompts!

Ok, enough.

Where's more?! I really want to know what happens next :D
